About Us...

Stewart and Richard are both manufactory agents in the hand knitting industry. The concept of the knitting barge came about from a combination of Stewart's interest from his earlier holiday experiences in the holiday trade and Richard needed to base himself in the Midlands to operate his sales area.

Richard's earlier knowledge about barges were that they carried heavy goods such as coal, wood and metal, until he lived at one end of standedge tunnel, a three and a quarter mile long tunnel that was used whilst transporting wool to the mills in Halifax.

As they are both in the hand knitting industry, they felt a need to help out their retailers in the normal seasonal slowdown and possibly help them to create a demand and increase business in an enjoyable setting.

All are welcome to book passage on the Maid of Fibre via our online appointment booking system, or via your local independent hand knitting retailer.

International visitors are also welcome, and accommodation is also provided for longer stays.
